What We Are Learning
Reading: Reading is thinking!  Students are learning how we will structure our reading workshop. Last week, the kids read, “The Evil Swirling Darkness.” This week, they are reading “How Candy Conquered America.” Ask your child to give you a little summary of the stories.  It is our hope that everyone is reading for at least 20 minutes each night.
Writing: This class is already proving to be an excited group of writers!  We look forward to hearing all the creative stories that will be written this year.  We will practice narrative writing, explanatory writing, writing opinion pieces, and conduct some research.
Math: We are working on number sense and place value.  The students are learning how to write numbers in standard form, word form, and expanded form.  We are also sharing strategies for comparing numbers.
PeaceBuilders: The PeaceBuilder principle of the month is: “What is peace?”

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the families that sent in donations.
We really appreciate them!
